Looking for a MarTech or Tech Job in Another Country?

Here are 7 Tips that Can help!

For tech professionals, remote work isn’t a new fashion trend. Over the past decade, remote work opportunities have grown by 91%. The increase is due to new technology and the fact that both employers and employees are discovering numerous benefits to remote work.

The COVID-19 global pandemic supercharged the work-from-home environment: 85% of companies indicated that productivity went up when their workers went remote. Employers see the powerful possibilities of remote work, while tech workers are increasingly interested in looking for jobs in new locations.

As a result, remote work is more accessible than ever. Tech employees now easily work for companies in foreign countries and complete tasks entirely online. Other employees move to different countries where their coding or programming expertise is in demand. Some tech employees seek to improve work-life balance. Remote work helps employees move to new markets by allowing the ability to secure a job before relocating.

Tips for finding a tech job in a new country

Seeking a tech job in a new country can seem challenging, but it doesn’t have to be. Read on to discover seven tips to help you find the perfect tech job in the location of your choosing.

  • Assess your skills. If you want to start hunting for tech jobs in a new market, the first place to start is within. What skills do you have that are highly sought in that market? If you have a region in mind, you can research the tech skills that are most desired by employers. If you don’t have an area in mind, you can search for regions where your current skills are in demand.
  • Add to your experience. Once you’ve researched your desired market, you can easily see which tech skills and knowledge are most sought after. If you’re missing some criteria, take the opportunity to gain that experience. Improving experience might require taking classes, gaining certifications, or volunteering somewhere that can help you boost skills and knowledge.
  • Research immigration restrictions. Every country has its own regulations when it comes to immigration. If you have a country in mind, find out what the challenges are for gaining legal employment. How does immigration status impact your eligibility? Do you need a visa? Will current political environments affect your prospects?
  • Research that job market. Remember, other countries don’t necessarily work the same way yours will. Payscale will vary according to the cost of living. Many people maintain the same income level that they would earn at home while choosing to work in relatively more budget-friendly countries. As a result, their salary becomes more valuable.
  • Find job resources. The job market and resources are slightly different. Once you get to the point where you’re looking for specific opportunities in a set market, you need to find international job postings or recruiters in that location. You can also use your professional network to research international countries that may be hiring. Many tech professionals today have an extensive network of online colleagues located across the globe. Don’t be afraid to reach out to people for resources.
  • Determine your ideal salary. Once you know your location, you need to very specifically look at the cost of living to determine how much you need to earn to maintain the lifestyle that will benefit you. You can use the information on the job market to determine the pay rate in that location. You may also consider remote work to allow you a higher pay rate with a lower cost of living.
  • Tailor your resume and cover letter. Crafting documents is an integral part of any job search, but it’s even more critical when you’re looking abroad. You may need to tailor your correspondence by translating it to another language or researching the local terminology.

72% of professionals agree that flexibility is essential to HR and recruiting in the future. That’s why employers are increasingly turning to agile hiring initiatives like remote work. For tech employees that want to increase their job opportunities and seek international employment, the growing popularity of remote work means there’s never been a better time to go global.
