Adblock Inc. Introduces Distraction Control, a New Feature That Blocks Even More Annoying Internet Distractions

Adblock Inc. recently announced the availability of Distraction Control, a new feature that allows internet users to block more annoying internet distractions, including autoplay/floating videos, newsletter popups, survey requests, and more. Distraction Control is included in the premium add-on to AdBlock, called AdBlock Premium. AdBlock is one of the most popular ad blockers worldwide.

In an August 2021 poll of 754 users of ad blocking software users fielded by Adblock Inc., respondents were asked to rate six common internet distractions on a scale of “very,” “somewhat,” or “not at all” annoying.” At the top of the annoying scale were autoplay/floating videos and promotional pop-ups, with 83% and 71% of respondents respectively rating them “very” annoying. The six distractions respondents were asked to rate were selected based on feedback from the more than 65 million people who use AdBlock software.

“There are a number of different forms of distracting pop-ups on many popular websites,” said Matthew Maier, CEO of Adblock Inc. “We believe everyone should be able to choose a distraction-free internet experience. Distraction Control gives users even more choice over what they see in their browsers.”

Distraction Control is available to AdBlock users when they upgrade to AdBlock Premium. In addition to Distraction Control, AdBlock Premium allows users to customize their ad blocking experience by swapping ads for personal images, installing themes, and syncing settings across all of their AdBlock extensions.

Distraction Control is available now for AdBlock for Chrome, AdBlock for Firefox, and AdBlock for Edge. It costs $1 per month or $10 annually. Distraction Control is not currently available on the AdBlock for Safari Mac app or mobile devices.

Adblock Inc. is responsible for Adblock Plus and AdBlock, the world’s most widely used ad blocking software, with tens of millions of people worldwide who depend on them every day to improve their internet experience. Adblock Inc., formerly known as BetaFish, was founded in 2009.
