DRUID Joins Forces With Infermedica to Launch Innovative Symptom Checker Virtual Assistant for Private Healthcare Network

DRUID, a market leader in conversational AI solutions, has finalized a new conversational healthcare project with private medical network Regina Maria, with the help of specialized healthcare technology solution provider Infermedica. The implementation is a novelty on the Romanian healthcare market, leveraging conversational AI technology’s benefits to give Romanian patients a safer, more efficient symptoms checker tool, guiding them towards the right medical primary care, based on their described symptoms.

The new intelligent Virtual Assistant, creates an engaging digital experience for patients by directing them fast and efficiently to the appropriate medical specialist for an appointment. The procedure is straightforward: once online, patients are guided through a comprehensive list of questions that help the conversational platform’s powerful artificial intelligence (AI) engine make an informed assessment of their symptoms and risk factors. Following this analysis of symptoms and having a solid database of over 720 conditions, the Virtual Assistant connects the patient with the appropriate medical services and guides them to make an appointment in a fully automated and digitized process.

The Virtual Assistant is expected to significantly improve the patient journey, streamline the number, and augment the quality of medical visits; doctors have online access to the symptoms described by the patient, which are automatically saved in the system at the time of the appointment. In the long term, this will encourage education and prevention by guiding people more promptly and precisely towards a possible diagnosis, encouraging them to reach the right doctor sooner.

DRUID built the Virtual Assistant using Infermedica’s API, a technology that provides flexible access to all features available on the Infermedica platform. The platform represents a complex toolbox of advanced medical technologies, including an AI-driven Inference Engine and the Medical Knowledge Base, which contains thousands of clinically validated medical concepts. So far, it has supported over 10 million digital health checkups around the world, and this number will only grow as it is used on a regular basis by Regina Maria’s five million patients.

“We are excited to join forces with Regina Maria once more and assist them in implementing a conversational AI solution that is a real game changer for the Romanian healthcare industry. The solution, developed by our partner Infermedica, allows patients to check their symptoms directly on Regina Maria’s website or in the app and then be directed to the appropriate medical specialty thanks to a constantly updated and verified algorithm. The virtual assistant thus effectively serves as a digital front door for Regina Maria patients, providing them with informed guidance and a faster, seamless overall experience with the healthcare provider even before they step foot into a clinic”, Liviu Dragan, DRUID CEO, noted.

“In recent years, REGINA MARIA has been at the forefront of healthcare digitalization in Romania. With the launch of the AI-based symptoms checker, we become the first medical provider in the country to offer this innovative tool, helping patients better understand their symptoms and guiding them towards the appropriate medical specialty. I’m proud to say that, with the full support of our partners, REGINA MARIA is now the most digitized healthcare company on the market. The entire patient journey can be done online – from scheduling an appointment, to meeting the doctor and making the payment online; and now the AI Virtual Assistant that evaluates patients’ symptoms based on a glossary of 720 conditions.”, Cosmin Panaete, Business Processes Director at REGINA MARIA, added.

“Healthcare providers expect nothing but high quality and safety standards from vendors delivering innovative digital health solutions. Therefore, we are extremely excited that Regina Maria, a leading private-healthcare provider from Romania, trusted our partnership with DRUID and decided to provide their patients with symptom-checking functionality. Our partnership with DRUID is an excellent example of how, by joining forces, we can fulfill the highest expectations of healthcare’s digital front doors”, Piotr Orzechowski, CEO at Infermedica, further explained.
