Instagram Offers Australian iPhone Users a Chance to Verify Their Accounts, To Offer the Same to Android Users in Couple of Weeks

As a social influencer, it’s important for you to get that “Verified” blue tick against your handle on your social media presence. Yet, getting one on Instagram has been a steep uphill task. Not anymore. Instagram is reportedly testing a new verification process with an official request form, publicly accessible within the app for the first time.

Before you check your app for that request form, know that it is only available to iPhone users in Australia. But the company has said that they will also make it available to Android users in over the next couple weeks, also in Australia.

In her report for Mashable, Karrisa Bell writes that although Instagram has tried to crack down on alleged black market middlemen who claim to provide verified accounts for a couple of thousand dollars, it hasn’t been very successful in curbing the practice.

So in a bid to end the scams and shady under-the-table dealings, Instagram is trying out this verification process, with a “request verification” option that will appear in Instagram’s main settings.

“This new feature will allow our community the opportunity to apply for verification themselves, and understand the process behind getting verified on Instagram. We believe opening up verification to the public will also work towards safeguarding our community,” informed Nichola Meek, Strategic Partner Manager for the APAC region, Instagram, as quoted by Australian publication nine.com.au.

So does this mean that soon anyone will be able to have a verified account? No. Bell writes that the in-app form notes the blue tick is still reserved for “the authentic presence of a notable public figure, celebrity, global brand or entity it represents”.

So as a user, requesting for a verification is just part of the process. Despite your request, Instagram will evaluate whether a particular account meets the criteria. If it does, congratulations, you don’t have to pay any middlemen for that coveted blue tick. If it doesn’t, then, maybe influencer marketing isn’t for you.
