Welcome to this MarTech Series chat Cailin, tell us more about yourself and your new role at Paubox?

As Paubox’s new VP of Marketing, I’m responsible for the development and implementation of cohesive marketing plans to accelerate company growth and lead key marketing initiatives. I have 18+ years of experience in marketing leadership roles at several start-ups, including Zenefits and SolarCity. My passion in scaling and securing digital solutions for communication needs led me to exercise my talents to help the thousands of passionate Paubox customers.

We’d love to hear about some of the top marketing highlights and learnings you have had from your journey through the years?

Fail fast, learn quickly, share often and pivot…I’ve learned that progress and success come from a culture where data leads decisions and experimentation is encouraged. I’ve often learned the most in my career from being wrong and pivoting quickly.  

What are some of the top thoughts you’d share with marketing leaders who are joining new marketing teams / companies? 

It’s important to understand the expectations of your team members – not just your peers and manager.  

Taking 30 days to assess the data and get familiar with the reports you have available will not only allow you to fill in gaps but also prioritize, which is half of the battle of starting a new marketing role.

Can you take us through some of the proven marketing strategies you’ve driven and thoughts on the top martech tools you’ve always relied on to drive your initiatives?

For SaaS based businesses, measuring usage of your products and NPS is still extremely important. This is the key indication of your business’s success.  I’ve always relied heavily on Salesforce dashboards to indicate campaign performance and lead future investment decisions.  

One of the favorite parts of my job is solving customer problems. There is nothing more valuable than meeting with customers and leveraging tools like Gong and Chorus.ai to create shareable content to shape positioning and onboard new team members.

As marketing trends change and impact how marketers plan their customer acquisition strategies, what are some fundamentals that they should be keeping in mind?

Set up tracking and understand how you’re going to measure what you’re doing before you do it. This might be as simple as collecting customer feedback and sharing it with your team, building out dashboards to demonstrate the performance of your campaigns or researching a market before building out your strategy.  

A few thoughts on the future of martech and B2B marketing? Some top skills you feel marketing leaders need to strengthen in today’s environment?

Even as marketers I think that communication skills can always be improved upon.  Be confident in your ability to share information thoughtfully, ask for help and make recommendations.

Customers are your biggest asset.  Learn from them constantly.  Leveraging data will lead you to the right decision every single time!
