“We are excited to welcome Dave to our board where he can support us through our next stage of growth,” said Bill Mann, CEO of Styra. “Dave has been on a similar journey at scale through his work at Auth0 and we are fortunate for his knowledge and insight as we continue to shape the future of Styra and the authorization market. The authentication problem has been a huge challenge for corporations of all sizes, whether they are B2B or B2C, and authorization is the next necessary step to better control application access. Dave will be a valuable advisor as we continue to expand our capabilities and grow as an organization.”

Wilner has over 20 years of experience leading companies that are on a high-growth trajectory. Most recently he was the CRO at Auth0, an adaptable authentication and authorization platform. From 2015 to 2021, he helped lead and scale Auth0 through their growth phase, from $1 million to almost a quarter billion dollars in sales. During this time he also supported a $6.5 billion acquisition by Okta. He joined Auth0 after serving as CRO at K2 for four years, where the team grew revenues from $10 million to $100 million and completed a successful liquidity event. Wilner joined K2 from Autonomy, which was acquired by Hewlett-Packard, where he was the vice president of sales and business development. From 2006 to 2008, Wilner also served as Redfin’s first COO.

“It is hard to imagine a bigger opportunity than cloud-native authorization,” said Wilner. “Authorization that enhances security without compromising user experience will be a given in all applications, it’s just a matter of time. I’m excited to join the Styra board because they are the company best positioned to deliver authorization at enterprise scale. They have set the standard for modern stack companies with OPA and I look forward to joining them as they continue to change the way the industry thinks about authorization.”

Over the last year, Styra completed a $40 million Series B to continue driving the reinvention of policy and authorization for cloud-native applications. Since then, the company has continued to expand its product portfolio by the launches of Styra DAS for Terraform as well as Styra DAS for Cloud-Native Entitlements. Over the course of this year, Styra will continue expanding its turnkey control plane for OPA providing unified authorization across the cloud-native stack.
