Strategic partnership and integration with Browserbase extends 1Password’s trusted credential security into emerging AI-driven browser automation workflows
1Password, an Identity Security leader, announced Secure Agentic Autofill, a new capability that securely delivers credentials to AI agents operating in the browser. Available exclusively in early access through an integration with Browserbase, a cloud browser automation platform, Secure Agentic Autofill allows AI agents to authenticate with web services without ever exposing credentials. AI developers can quickly connect a 1Password vault to power secure browser workflows, while IT and security teams gain assurance that credentials and sensitive data stay protected with 1Password as the security layer for Agentic AI.
“AI is opening up new ways to help people work smarter and get more done, but the fundamentals of security don’t change,” said David Faugno, CEO of 1Password. “At 1Password, we have always believed security should empower productivity, not block it. By partnering with Browserbase, we’re making it simple for teams to build and innovate with Agentic AI while keeping credentials and sensitive data protected by default. That way, you can focus on creating real value, knowing agentic AI identity security is built in by default.”

Agentic AI with Zero-Knowledge Security
1Password’s approach to AI is rooted in its principles of privacy, transparency, and trust. Secure Agentic Autofill brings these principles to Browserbase, ensuring AI agents can execute workflows under human oversight while credentials remain private, protected, and not exposed. With Secure Agentic Autofill, business and consumer app developers can connect their 1Password vaults, configure which credentials AI Agents can access, and allow secure autofill only when required. Key features of the integration include:
- Human-in-the-loop authorization: Real-time approval prompts via 1Password mobile or desktop.
- Private and secure by default: Credentials are not shared with the LLM or exposed in Browserbase logs and repos, maintaining 1Password’s security model.
- Easy setup: Connect a 1Password vault to Browserbase Director through a quick and seamless desktop setup.
- Just-in-time authentication: AI Agents automatically retrieve and inject login credentials, passwords, and Time-based One-Time Password codes at runtime, without storing or logging secrets.
- Automatic credential mapping: Smart selection of the right credentials for target websites during agent workflows to prevent phishing attacks.

The Authentication Challenge for AI Agents
Secure Agentic Autofill addresses one of the most urgent challenges in AI adoption: secure authentication. As people adopt AI agents that take action on their behalf, those agents must be able to log in and work securely, without requiring constant human intervention. shortcuts in AI development are leading to embedded secrets within agents, undoing years of security progress and reintroducing the very risks the industry has worked so hard to eliminate. Secure Agentic Autofill addresses this by delivering credentials directly from a 1Password vault into Browserbase at runtime, under human oversight, with end-to-end encryption, and 1Password’s zero-knowledge security model. Secrets never pass through or become visible to the AI, giving organizations a safer, scalable way to adopt AI agents.
“We see AI agents changing the way work gets done, from procurement and onboarding to customer service and research,” said Paul Klein, CEO of Browserbase. “As we move toward an AI-native internet, these agents need a trust layer for credential access. Our partnership with 1Password creates exactly that, extending their proven security framework into the emerging world of agentic browser automation, so organizations can scale AI confidently.”
Secure Agentic Autofill is available in early access beginning October 8, 2025, for 1Password customers using Browserbase.
