Parks Associates: More Than 20% Of US Broadband Households Use An Antenna To Access Local Over-The-Air Broadcasts

Parks Associates Addresses the Future of Video Distribution at the Pay TV Show in Analyst Roundtable and Session Featuring Executives from Starry, T-Mobile, Verizon, and Viacom

New research from Parks Associates shows that approximately 22% of US broadband households use an antenna to watch over-the-air broadcasts. Households with both antennas and pay TV subscribe to multiple OTT video services and are more likely to own connected entertainment devices than are average broadband households or pay-TV-only households.

“We see two different groups of antenna users today,” said Brett Sappington, Senior Director of Research, Parks Associates. “Some do use antennas exclusively, providing them with a no-cost way to get quality entertainment, live sports, and news. However, a second group uses antennas and over-the-air content as a supplement to a much larger entertainment portfolio. This segment is leading the demand for universal discovery across multiple content sources that simplifies the process of quickly finding something to watch.”

Sappington will speak on the “Analyst Roundtable – Debating the Future of Video Distribution: Who Wins?” session during The Pay TV Show on May 15 at 4:10 PM. Top industry analysts will debate the technology and business directions of the pay TV industry.
