StickerYou Custom Stickers

From smiley faces to aliens, emojis prove that a picture is worth a thousand words

StickerYou, an e-commerce leader that empowers people to express themselves with custom, die-cut products including stickers and decals, is celebrating World Emoji Day with a series of customizable stickers commemorating the greatest emojis of the last 40 years. Emojis, which started life as emoticons used by computer scientists, are now a key element of Internet pop culture. There are currently more than 3,300 recognized emojis available in the Unicode standard.

“Emojis aren’t just cute images – they are part of our language,” said Andrew Witkin, Founder and CEO of StickerYou. “A lot of them are obscure, but a small number of them have become universal and iconic. As we celebrate World Emoji Day, StickerYou wanted to recognize the classics, ones that stand out from the crowd and have become essential parts of how people communicate with each other.”

The Top Five Classic Emojis selected by StickerYou are:

  1. Smiling Face. This one traces its roots back to the first emoticons in 1982, and it’s still the gold standard for emojis. Instead of writing out a long email or text, this single image often does the trick, often to lighten a situation.
  2. Winking Face. When you want to say something but aren’t quite sure that it will be well received, you can always hedge your bets with this oldie-but-goodie. It’s perfect for texts sent at two in the morning to that awesome person you met at the bar a few hours earlier.
  3. Face Blowing a Kiss. This emoticon contains multitudes. Is it a “thanks – now go away” brush-off, or is it the first salvo in eternal love? You decide.
  4. Nauseated Face. This is the perfect emoji response to a disgusting meme or an unreasonable request from your boss. Just don’t send it to your boss.
  5. Pile of Poo. What else needs to be said about this brilliant emoji that encapsulates feelings of anger, disgust, regret, and loathing in one pithy image. And it’s kind of cute, too, which makes it even better.
