IDEMIA Identity and Security, North America Launches Mobile ID Technology in Mississippi

Mobile driver’s licenses will be offered to residents as part of the Department of Public Safety’s effort to transform state’s online services and better serve residents

IDEMIA, I&S, North America, the world-leading biometric and identity solutions provider, including TSA PreCheck®, announced today that it has partnered with the Mississippi Department of Safety (DPS) to introduce Mobile ID to its residents as part of its plan to modernize the services provided to residents. Mobile ID is a digitized version of a physical driver license that allows citizens to control their identity via a free app on their smartphone and gives users more control over their identity, with unprecedented security and privacy.

“The Mississippi Department of Public Safety is committed to utilizing technology to enhance the quality of our residents’ lives”

Mississippi residents can still choose to only rely on their physical ID, but many residents will find Mobile ID is convenient, secure and private. It will easily allow residents to always have an up-to-date driver’s license or ID. It can be used as a legal form of identity verification anywhere in the state users would normally show their driver’s license and expands users’ ability to provide proof of identity online.

“IDEMIA is proud of our collaboration with the Mississippi Department of Public Safety,” said Michael Lee, Vice President of Business Operations at IDEMIA. “Through this partnership, Mississippi is leading the digital transformation by bringing residents a secure identification option that enhances their access to state services.”

Wherever they use it, residents’ information can only be accessed with their fingerprint or face authentication. Mobile ID also protects citizens’ private data by allowing them to choose what information they share for age-verified transactions and also added convenience and security to online identity verification needed to access state services. By verifying identity prior to transactions, the state is able to streamline processes, reduce fraud and improve the resident’s experience.

“The Mississippi Department of Public Safety is committed to utilizing technology to enhance the quality of our residents’ lives,” said Commissioner Sean Tindell. “While Mississippi Mobile ID will be voluntary; it is our belief that residents will find this new service to be secure, private and convenient.”

Mississippi is the fourth state to deploy IDEMIA’s Mobile ID technology, following Arizona, Oklahoma and Delaware. And by the end of 2022, IDEMIA expects Mobile ID will be the standard identity solution many states will offer to their residents.
